My Family

My whole family was together this weekend in Folsom, California for my cousin Joseph's wedding.  Here's a photo my uncle took of us at the wedding when I was taking a break from shooting.

More photos to come of the weekend's festivities!

Life In Their Hands

This is part of a month-long project I have been working on, it will run in the paper on Sunday, June 29.

The idea came from my mom several years ago when I was working for a newspaper in South Carolina and she noticed that I like to photograph hands. I think you can tell a lot about a person's life if you look closely at their hands.

So, mom, this one's for you . . . Life In Their Hands

Two Days of Fun!

Here are some photos from my fun weekend-

I actually had two days off in a row - no wedding to shoot!

On Saturday, Tim and I went to Lake Allatoona and went on a hike and swam.

Sunday I met Nicole in Greenville, SC to go to the Greenville Zoo and do some shopping.

Horray, weekend!

Strawberry Moon

Tim and I went on a little field trip last night to take pictures of the Solstice Moon Illusion!

Top photo:
The sun sets over Lake Allatoona in Cherokee County on Wednesday night, while scouting locations for the moonrise.

Bottom:

The moon rises over Lake Allatoona at 9:45pm on Wednesday night. The full moon appeared especially large, due to an illusion called the Solstice Moon Illusion. The Solstice Moon Illusion, also known as the Summer Solstice Moon or the Strawberry Moon, arrives two days before the beginning of summer. Scientists are not sure how it happens, but suggest that while the moon is not actually larger, the rays of moonlight coverage and the night's high solstice sun tricks the eye into believing the moon is larger than normal.

A Special Father's Day

My parents and I went down to Walterboro, SC yesterday to visit my grandfather at his nursing home.

It was nice to see both my father and grandfather on Father's Day. My mom packed a special picnic with all Pap-Pap's favorite foods and we ate lunch with him and visited. He really appreciated the company and it was good to see him smile.

In front of the camera

A couple of weeks ago two other photographers from 35 Atlanta and I went to a small town in the country about 2 hours from Atlanta to photograph a wedding.

We got done early and were driving back home late afternoon and saw an odd little small town with run-down buildings next to this field of purple flowers.

Even though we had been shooting for 8 hours already, we decided to jump out and have an impromptu photo shoot of each other! (Which is why I am dressed like a Ninja - still my mandatory black work clothes.)

Anyway, thanks to Lauren for emailing these to me today!

Sign Retaliation?

I was driving down the road during work today and saw this sign outside of a iron works business. Took a photo and then called my editor to get someone to look into it. . .

When one of our reporters called the man today to see what was up with the sign, he said that the school counselor asked his granddaughter about some allegations of animal abuse at their home, and the Department of Children and Family Services came out to investigate and it pissed him off.

He said "DFCS should not have sent a 20 year old black man out to check out naked white girls."

WHAT???

Anyway, the man told Kristal that he uses the sign to get back at people to "F--- with him", and that he's also had comments about the cable company and local businesses on it.

Crazy Georgia people.

P.S. - We're not doing a story due to the fact that this man is nuts!
